kaffiene help please

Hi all,

thank you to everyone who has helped me so far - i'm a newbie and i'm trying to learn!

edit - i'm using suse 9.1...

I'm trying to play a sound file that goes

mms://66.224.126.7/ltmmp3/daily/tnp041105.mp3

If I click on it in mozilla - I get "mms is not a registered protocol"

If I click on it in konqueror - and go "open" then kaffiene appears in the window with "no input plugin" error

I did a search on this and and went to http://geocities.com/majormms/

however I wasn't able to install the tar, it said I need to install xine first - but I thought kaffiene was xine - isn't it??

If I go into xmms and click +URL - and then play - nothing happens..

I'm a little confused now - all I want to do is play an mms file - can someone help me out??

kaffeine is a bit like xine, but no it is not xine. this could be a codec issue. i am not familur with that extention, but under suse you should be able to apt-get/yum/up2date xine with little or no problems.

Loooks like a media stream served up by windows media server. Umm you may or may not need the win32 codecs package, probably not. In any event mostly xine and mplayer have support for thoose and rtsp streams. Kaffeine is based on xine engine and provides a nifty frontend. Xine itself does not consist of any gui. The frontends like xine-ui and kaffeine are what allow you to utilize the xine engine.

This is a program to download/save mms streamms for linux. Maybe try it out if all else fails.
