Kaffeine - not happening after install

Hi, I've just followed the instructions on the Jem Report to install Kaffeine on Suse 10.1 - my distribution. Followed the instructions to the letter but when I came to run a DVD nothing happened. Opened Kaffeine thro' menu and got message "This version of Xine (used by Kaffeine) has only a reduced set of supported codecs. It is not able to play DVDs". This was the whole purpose of the mission. So, I tried it a second time - followed the Jem Report instructions and got the same message. Restarted and got the same message although I did notice that it brought up an icon on the desktop - first for the drive and then, when clicked, for the DVD - it showed the title - nothing more. Any ideas?

you need to replace kaffeine and it's xine base. add libdvdcss2 and win32 codecs and you should be good to go.

Hi, took a look on YaST and both libdvdcss1 and win32codecs-all are protected. Before I go ahead and start tinkering just wanted to check that these are the relevant files. If they are, do I just over-ride the protection and reinstall - or is that a little foolhardy. BTW, my machine is now running really slow and connection time is very slow, when I go onto package management it takes so long to load, I can only assume it has a problem. Get a msg about source not being available and that packman is not a recognised source. Any thoughts?

did you update or reinstall either kaffeine or Xine?

I followed the Jem instructions, which I assume did the whole thing. But now, given the various msgs, I'm not so sure. Also looked at Update sources and although the sources req'd are in there, they are below a couple of others. Could this be the problem - it's updating from the earliest source and not from packman.

did you turn off the cd/dvd as an update source?, if not make sure it it off go inot software manafement and update kaffeine and xine

Turned 'em off and the refresh is off on them as well. The other updates are for a mirror at chemnitz.de and no doubt are not OSS, given that they came in automatically when I loaded.

Tried the whole lot again. libxine1 will not download and neither will totem. I guess that libxine1 is the updated Xine which is causing the problem. Have now removed the other update sources and CD/DVD update. Also unlocked the various locked files in a bid to get the **** thing to update Xine. Where am I going wrong and have I committed some major crimes in doing what I'm doing (it feels like I have). Is my machine about to gasp it's last breath and is there any light at the end of the tunnel. All I want to do is watch DVDs for goodness sakes!!

Download Kaffeine and libxine1 here:
http://packman.links2linux.org/?action=124
and here:
http://packman.links2linux.org/?action=325

When I was using Suse, I found the main Packman site was slow, and sometimes unavailable. There is a list of alternate mirrors here:
http://www.suseforums.net/index.php?showtopic=17225

You will need lidvdcss to play commercial DVD's here:
ftp://ftp.pbone.net/mirror/ftp.links....pm.2.i586.rpm

And w32codecs for windows video here:
ftp://ftp.pbone.net/mirror/packman.i....pm.0.i586.rpm

I don't garantee the links, because it's a while since I used Suse, but I had it all working...
