k3b pretends to burn, but really does nothing
 
hi, so i installed k3b on my ubuntu disto to burn an iso, should be an easy task right? well every time i go through the process i end up with a blank cd.

i read up on some stuff and heard that its not uncommon for linux not to recognize the cd it just made, so i switched it over to my windows box and it's still just a blank cd. i then put the cd back into my linux box and i get a popup window saying "you have inserted a blank disc" -- same goes for windows.

i've looked all through the k3b settings and what not, only to find that everything looks fine. it looks and acts like its doing everything correctly, but i still end up with a blank disc every time. ????????

also, since i'm a multi-booter i just switched over to fedora and the same exact thing happened. i'm a member of the adm and wheel and disk groups, so uh....why???

Are you sure that you haven't got the "simulate" option checked?

Isn't 'real mode' the same as 'non-simulate'? I think it's not in simulate.

What is the .ISO, like a Linux ISO or something like that? Try with -DAO instead of -TAO, add the proper -PAD spacing, and maybe remove -burnfree, atleast to test.

Try this (adjust as needed for your drive and paths):

(root)# cdrecord dev=/dev/hdd speed=4 padsize=63s -pad -dao -v -eject /absolute/path/to/image.iso
and if you like/need to, you can fast-blank the disk within the same command by adding the blank=fast argument somewhere in the beginning of that command, like near the 'speed' argument..

NOTE: this all assumes that k3b isn't really '..doing nothing..' but rather is burning a useless frisbee instead :)

so i tried that, and got the exact same result. see i knew i wasn't competely dumb, i guess my burner is just broken? bleh. thanks for your help guys, but i'm so beat down at this point i'm going to the bar and i don't really care if my machine lights itself on fire while i'm gone :Pengy:
