K3b not see writer

when i run k3b as any user other than root my dvd writer does not show. I have tried all the stuff i can find on LQ and still nothing.
Any ideas i think it has got to be a permissions issue or something but im new so its a bit over my head.

And also when installing the new version of k3b when i do a ./configure
i get this
Code:
checking for Qt... configure: error: Qt (>= Qt 3.1 (20021021)) (headers and libraries) not found. Please check your installation!
For more details about this problem, look at the end of config.log
what the hell is Qt ?? and how do i install it..

Its a library used for graphical user interfaces I think. You can find and install packages from here http://www.rpmfind.net/ Packages for suse 9.1 should be okay with suse 9.2.

Good Luck

http://k3b.plainblack.com/requirements
# QT >= 3.1 KDE 3.1.x requires the QT library version 3.1, a cross-platform GUI development toolkit. Since K3b is a threaded application QT needs to be compiled with threading support enabled.

If your current version of K3B has it (I'm running version 0.11.20), try the "K3B setup" command in the "Settings" menu... if it's available and it works right, it should make setting the correct permissions almost completely painless.

Don't know how your distro does installs... I'm running Debian "sarge".

I do know, however, that Qt is the graphical toolkit that is at the core of KDE... as an earlier poster guessed. I would tend to agree that you probably want the latest version of KDE to resolve that error message.
