k3b Finalize disk
Hello all. I've read through the K3B manual and have searched various Linux-affiliated sites including nixcraft.com, this site, tldp.org and a few others. I'm trying to find out how to configure k3b to finalize the disk session once the burn is complete. The CD is a regular CD-R, nothing special about it. On the Windows workstations, Roxio is used and it has the option to finalize after the burn. For the Red Hat Desktops, though, for whatever reason, I'm unable to find the option to finalize. I've looked at growisofs, but I need something the user can do without having to resort to the command line. They're all using KDE on Red Hat.
Any/all information would be appreciated. I do have my reasons for requiring finalization. |
I use k3b all the time both for data disks and disk images. I've never heard of "finalize a disk session". Basically you click ok and exit from the application. What exactly do you want to do? It sounds like burning a CD image. Is that correct? If so, when k3b opens just click on the Tools menu and then the item "Burn image...". It will ask you about the source and the target.

Thanks for your reply. Usually, the way you can tell whether a disk is finalized or not is to insert it into a Windows computer, open My Computer, and if the disk shows MB free, it hasn't been finalized. That's what we're seeing, so I'm confident the disk isn't being finalized. I'm just not sure if a plugin or other feature of K3B would allow me to perform this function.

I don't know anything about windows (it sounds hopelessly complicated) so I still have no idea what "finalized" actually means. I also don't know if you're talking about a data disk, one with one or many files such as .avi files or .ogg files or a disk image (iso) type file. I don't know what to look for on K3b that has any relation to what you're talking about. Maybe it's purely a windows type thing.

Ok, mc, thanks. I never had to use anything but auto. Never had a problem either with data cd/dvd or burning images.

"In K3B, after you click on the "Burn" button you will get an options dialog. On the top right drop down change the "Writing App:" from "Auto" to "growisofs". That should do it." I'm afraid it's not solved for me as the above option doesn't appear to be available. |
