Using K3b under Ubuntu.

Can read CD's, PLay DVD's fine except cannot play CD Audio.

When trying to burn a CD, K3b fails. When looking at cdrdao output, it mentions a permissions problem.

So then I tried running K3b as root and the permissions problem is solved, but burning fails

I use k3b with openSUSE 10.2 as user and don't have a problem. Have you checked the permissions on your dvd burner? I looked at my dvd burner as well as cdrdao. The permissions for cdrdao are -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root, and the permissions for the burner are lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root.

Use K3B setup to fix permissions. It's under Settings>Setup System Permissions or Settings>k3b Setup, (depending on k3b version). It needs to be run as root.

did you build it from scratch or get it with apt?
you may have to make a burning group and add your user to it (I'm not really sure about Ubuntu)
you could also see if there is a newer version of cdrdao or try an older on if that's the case
