Just sold my old computer. Got an ancient computer while I wait for my new one

Hello everyone.

Just to sum up the confusing title of this topic.

I recently sold my old computer, and in about a month I will buy a new and kickass one. Meanwhile the school I study in sell their old computers for allmost nothing. I will buy one on monday.

The specs on the temporary computer is:
CPU: somewhere between 133-233 mhz. (depends on wich computer I get my hands on, all the nerds want one)
RAM: 32.128 (most probably 128)
Harddrive: 1,5 gb or higher.

Something like that will be the specs.

Now I need to know the linux distro that will run on theese specs.

I will mainly use it for surfing and playing cd's.

Blackbox is probably the best choice for a GUI? Will it run on theese specs?

Will mozilla run on the computer?

If someone could reccomend a small distro with a web browser that support most webpages. It must be somewhat easy to install.

Hope on answers soon :)

High speed connection? If so I highly recommend Debian with the new installer just grab a couple boot floppies and install over the internet. At the boot: prompt type in linux26 to get an install with a 2.6 kernel which will be much faster than a 2.4 series. Partition the drive with at least 256mb for swap just to be sure you have enough and you should be good to go. I would use mozilla-firefox for the browser and if you get one of the machines with 128mb ram and 233 speed you should be able to run KDE even I have used it successfully on an old 200 with 64mb ram, 2gb HD I have here, it can take a little time starting up (about 2 minutes) but once loaded and all you are doing is surfing it works fine.

I would recommend Slackware. I have run it with no problems on machines with those specs and lower. I have gotten the best results using 7.1 and 8.1 on older hardware. Be advised though that gcc and glibs on these versions are old and might cause compile problems with software such as mplayer and other newer programs.

Thanks for the help people! :)

I decided to go for Debian since that is the distro I'm most comfortable with.

A lot of people have been talking about this, so as a test I've just installed mandrake 9.2 on a p150 with 64meg ram and a 2gig drive. Yes, I'm using it now running mozilla on KDE... Sure, it can be sluggish if you try to do too much, but fine if you only run a couple of apps and turn off anything you don't need - like fancy graphic backgrounds or textures, unwanted services and so forth... The performance is fine tho some patience may be required when loading things...
