54 year old that is proficient in windows but 2 weeks into Kali. I am at the frustration point just trying to set up my machine. Learning how to update (daily) . I have other OS on USB flashed hard drive. I use Ventoy on the external drive. Currently i am trying to get my old Asus RT-AC66U router to work as a repeater in my garage and it's kicking my ass. I guess I have one question (if anyone reads this) How do I find the PATH to my folders so I can install them through command line?
First, why Kali? It's a specialised penetration-testing distro, definitely not suitable for novices. If I were you, I'd switch to a different distro.
As far as finding things is concerned, the Linux command line provides two excellent utilities for finding the location of files or folders whose names are known. The simpler one (in terms of syntax) is locate, which uses a database that is usually updated daily or weekly by a background job. The more complex and powerful one is find, which works in real time. Use the man command to find out how to use these and other utilities.

Kali is the WORST possible distro for a new user, and their own website tells you this...read the two Kali links in my posting signature. It is meant for experienced Linux users, and even then just for pentesting/security testing...and to be run off of a USB key or a virtual machine, NOT installed.
A new user from Windows would be far better off with Mint, and setup should take no more than 20-30 minutes (about the same as a Windows installation). And you can go to a terminal window (the command prompt, like 'cmd' in Windows), and type in "set | grep PATH", which will return a line with numerous directories in it.
