Just installed Ubuntu 9.04 want to install blueman from source file
 

Hi there i just downloaded the blueman source file to get bluetooth teethering in my linux so that i can use internet (thats the only medium for me) but i dont know how to install from source code. And i cant even get online now! (im posting this via operamini) please can anyone provide me installation instruction with screen shoot for offline mode installation for blueman? Or is there any other way to connect a pc for the first time via dialup using a phone because i dont have broadband

If the file is on your computer,
untar the file, and look for readme files.

Did you check administration-Synaptic and see if it is there?

Blueman is available in the repositories for Lucid. You might want to check for Jaunty, possibility is the package is available in synaptic.

I don't know if the the person who posted this question is still watching it or not.
When I looked at the picks you posted they spoke of a mobile broadband connection . How is that going to help setting up dialup?

I believe the file is in the depositories and will install automatically.
I can check when I get to the office as I use Puppy at home as it is superior for dialup.

You haven't responded for a few days to your post. are you still interested? If not go back and mark it solved and thank the people who tried to help.

If you are I have setup dial up in 9.04. From your post you are not able to get online at all so we need to solve that first. Chances are there is a .deb file that will work just like a .exe in Windows for your bluetooth, a one click install. If not I can download the tarball you did and show you how to do it.

First of all I need to know what kind and which model of modem you have.
If it is a winmodem which it most likely is it is a longshot it is supported by Ubuntu and you are better off spending 20.00 on a used hardware modem, they are built for commercial use and even an old hardware modem is better than any winmodem, new or not, The 20.00 or so it will cost will save you lots of hassle and you will connect faster and stay connected. All of my Linux boxes are superior to windows for dial up, the machine I am sending this on is dialed with Puppy Linux and I can download a meg every 80 seconds which is 40% better than the same machine, same modem, with windows.

To get you online quickly download this file pup-431.iso from

If you are familiar w/ ftp it is a bit faster to download the file puppy-4.3.1. from

Burn it as an image file to a cd. IMG Burner works well in windows for this.

Then boot your computer with the biros set to boot of that cd. Answer all the questions and when you get to the question on ther video driver be absolutely sure to choose XVESA as the driver, 98% of the time it will boot with no problems.
If it doesn’t type xorgwizard at the prompt and lower the resolution and type xwin to try again, It is highly unlikely you will have any trouble with XVESA set at say 800. We can worry about fine tuning the video later, right know we just needle to get you online. While you are at it go ahead and download firefox-3.6.pet as you will want to replace the browser.
If you prefer Chrome or Opera or whatever you can use those as well.

The login name is puppy and the password is puppy and sometimes you have to try 7 or 8 times to log in . I assume
because of trafficc but don’t give up.

I will show you how to uninstall SeaMonkey after you get online. Installing FireFox is a one click operation but you need to uninstall Sea Monkey first.

Once you are booted in Puppy go to Menu-Shutdown -Reboot and when it asks you to set up a pupsavefile do so and install it on the Ubuntu partition,756 megs will do fine. Let it write the sfs files etc. to the drive , tell it not to encrypt the files {you change anything later if you like} and when it reboots you will have a frugal install of Puppy which is all I ever do unless I an installing to a flash drive which is also ridiculously easy.

On the desktop there will be an icon called connect {a telephone} . Right click and choose Interned connection Wizard and then select dial up and from there it is just like windows {almost anyway}. When the PupDial screen opens hopefully it will have found the windmodem . If not hit probe. I fit stil doesn’t do a search for modem drivers puppy linux and try the extra ones for your modem ,. I only have the standard driver pack and it found 4 of 9 modems I tried.

If you still don;t get on you can buy a windmodem that will work with Puppy and maybe Ubuntu but you will have to research the Martian drivers and the Dell drivers or you will have to pay 20.00 for a driver from Linuxtant. It is not worth the trouble, Try any modems you have laying around on puppy or just go ahead and buy a USRobotics Sportster Modem from Ebay and flash it to 56K if it is not already or buy a new USB hardware modem there for around 40.00.
Be careful most USB modems are just winmodems which are nothing but a line interface.

95% of the time I use Puppy Linux , dial up or broadband.
