Just installed ubuntu 6.06.1 LTS and am trying to set up an internet connection
I have my Ubuntu 6.06.1 LTS installed on a different harddrive. Everything with my installation is working fine with the exception of connecting to the internet. Since I still use a dial-up connection with Netzero, I read the other posts concerning using the Wine app, but I am having to connect to the internet with windows to learn how to do this. Any help would be truly appreciated. I love the way the linux based OS works, but am a little confused how to pull this off.

Hi gerryk1949,
Welcome to Linux (or open source) world, If your Linux have the modem driver, then you can connect internet easily. Probably using this command in terminal: gnome-ppp or gksu network-admin but I don't know how your modem will work. Are you use usb, RS232 or built in modem? About the wine, you can go to http://www.winehq.com to see the wine supported application 1st before you try some application which we know DON'T WORK. good luck. Regards, Ks |
