Just installed Partimage. How do I start the program?

Hi !

Please help me! This is not the first time I install a program, and then, I can't find it in the gnome menu.

This time it's Partimage.

I went to the Terminal and typed apt-get install partimage. Everything went smothly whithout any errors in the Terminal.

The program turn up in the Synaptic Package Manager. Look here:

But where is the icon in the gnome menu to start the program?

I run Ubuntu.

If I remember correctly, you often have to log out and log in again for the menus to be updated.
Otherwise, do you have SMEG on your machine? (Simple Menu Editor for Gnome)

Yes, but SMEG is another of the programs I've installed which doesn't turn up in the gnome menu.

SMEG is listed in the Synaptic Package Manager. See here:

What am I to do?

Can you run SMEG from a terminal?

yes, I can !

In SMEG, I can't find PARTIMAGE or SMEG in the list displayed.

Is it possible in SMEG, to create new entries for my programs which doesn't turn up in the gnome menu?

If so, where do I find the packages and the file in the package that the entry shall point at?

Yes.

the executable (the bit you want) is probably in a folder called 'bin' somewhere.

I'd think /bin /usr/bin and /usr/local/bin are likely candidates.

I found the SMEG executable in /usr/bin. I created a menu entry in SMEG. And it works! Now I have an menu entry for SMEG.

PARTIMAGE I didn't find in any /bin folder. I created a menu entry for PARTIMAGE which opens the program in the Terminal. This also worked.

So, we can say my problem whith PARTIMAGE and SMEG is solved.

But, one question: Is it often necessary to make these manual entries in the gnome menu after installing a package? I thought the package installation program always automatically would create a menu entry in the gnome menu.
