just installed mandrake boot error

Hi guys, I posted here a few days ago about starting to learn linux. Well, finally my 2nd HD came in and I installed it (trying to get a dualboot system going since i already have XP on my first HD). I set up a 40Gig partition for linux using partition magic and booted the mandrake CD. Everything went smooth, until I restarted my comp. I get a black screen with 07 07 07 07 07 07 07 etc. ( i chose grub bootloader and dev/***b, 2nd option in menu since it said that was the second HD)
It asks me try reboot or enter the bios setup.
Please don't tell my I lost all my WinXP information!
If anybody can help i will REALLY appreciate it.

Thanks

a VERY WORRIED newb

Don't worry. Your XP is still there.

Start the mandrake installer again, press F1 for more options, then type
rescue
this will get you to a menu. One of the options is to restore DOS bootloader or something like that. That should allow you to boot into XP again.

BTW, mdk's default is to use lilo. Whatever bootloader you choose, it has to be installed into the MBR of the harddrive from which your machine boots - it's not necessarily the one on which linux sits; more likely that it is the one on which windows sits.
