just installed linksmint10 to acer laptop dont know how to set up wi fi ssid bssid
 

not sure where to get info I do have my infinity network name and password but not sure if they are ssid or what.

have you tried to run wicd...if you are looking for your wifi connection?

Is wicd installed?
If you like a gui, consider installing wicd-gtk

are you trying to connect to a home wireless router or something else?

A description of your internet hardware might be handy.

--If you have a usb dongle modem...then install the usb-modeswitch software, its actual name might vary from distro to distro.

No to trying everything you suggested
 

I'm not that good on computers. but I do have infinity wireless router. I will try the suggestions thanks for your help. also I'm not getting any wireless routers in my area to show up on my portable computer I think the wireless router isn't turned on or something. Im using ACER laptop had windows vista on it. and yes it is home wireless

Mint 10 has not been supported since April, 2012 which means no updates of any kind. You might try getting Mint 13 which will have support for nearly four years.

Do you have the wireless switch on on the laptop?
When you mouse over the icons on the Desktop (not sure if they are on lower or upper right) do you see one which says something about network?
If you do, click on it and open it. Also, what have you done to this point to try to get it going, if anything??
