Unhappy Just got Mepis and how do i install new programs

i just received mepis and i would like to install a 3ddesktop program. the only problem is i don't know how to install anything on Linux. this program that i am using is called "3ddeskfx-0.2.4.tar.gz" i have no idea what i need to do to install. if some one can help i would be very greatfull.

Are you absolutely sure you need to install it from source?
It's not in Synaptic Package Manager, even if you enable extra repositories (Settings > Repositories, check all the boxes except the non-us ones)?
