Angry just cant get back past squid/firewall wi ftp

I have an internal Lan(macs+Pc's+linux)with a Webmin/squid proxy+firewall Gateway to the outside world.
Everything is roses.

BUT I cannot get passive ftp to pass thro and back.

Sniffing the ftp server outside i see the syn, syn/ack and ack but as soon as the displayed protocol switches from TCP to FTP ("Responce : 220 *** Microsoft ftp service.. .. ..) this does not get thro to the Lan and hence the whole thing falls down.
I am not using transparent proxying.
I am going a little MAD
I have been on this ages..

If anybody can HELP I would be sooo gratefull. I have read lots and come up with nothing.. .. .. .. ..

I have had difficulty routing ftp connections in the past. I finally ended up setting up an ftp proxy server along side my squid installation (as squid doesn't do ftp). It is the least painful way of avoiding common connection problems with ftp. Oh and don't use wsFtp as the client, it seems to have more problems than Filezilla and the others (for windows clients). Good luck.
