Just a question about a domain name

If I set up a DNS server, will I be able to go to www.mywebsitethatisetup.com and access my website that it on the dns server with apache? I'm just curious because that's what I undersand. I do not want to have to go and buy a domain name because I just don't want to spend the money (I don't have much to spare. All was spent on my linux computer..)

sorry esher2292, there is no way you can have a domain and not go out and buy it. What you can do is have an IP address that will get any user to your website (e.g: http://215.111.254.65/ will display your site).

oh. Let's say I go to www.register.com and buy www.esher2292domain.com . How do I set it up so that it goes to my website on my computer with dns setup?

Well actually it'd be www.learncomputersinc.org from www.godaddy.com lol
