jre path in suse9.0 for oracle8 install

i'm trying to install oracle8i on suse9.0. when i try and launch the installer it gives the follwing err:
oracle@linux:/media/cdrecorder> ./runInstaller
Initializing Java Virtual Machine from /usr/local/jre/bin/jre. Please wait...
Error in CreateOUIProcess(): -1
: No such file or directory

that jre folder does not exits on my system, but jre is installed.
in the /etc/java/java2-jre.conf. .
JAVA_HOME = /usr/lib/SunJava2-1.4/jre
JRE_HOME = /usr/lib/SunJava2-1.4/jre

is this the directory where the jvm is installed and if so how do i get the oracle install to initialise it from there?

Check if the directory exists. If it does, you may try to run
export PATH=$PATH:/usr/lib/SunJava2-1.4/jre/bin
before you start the installation (it sets PATH environment variable)
