Unhappy JPG Files problem unknow file type


I have Gnome on a HP Pavillion DV1000 series, and I can't open or use jpg files, I already tried by emerging diferent image viewing tools, but nothing happens, what can i do. I get a unknown file type error with GIMP...

Are you using gentoo? If so, check your use flags.
