java question

I am definitly a newbie to Linux............ I installed REdhat 9 then updated Moxilla browser and installed Netscape 7.1. I figured out how to link to Netscape instead of mozilla, but I have tried to install various versions of java. They appear to install properly, but do not work? Can someone shed some light on this?

TIA

the java plugin will not always work (often times it must be fiddled with).

To determine if such is the case execute mozilla or netscape from the command line and see if the plugin outputs any errors when its loaded.

Did you use the .rpm.bin file from java.sun.com?

Yes I used the rpm file and I do not see any errors when loading. It does not look as if java even loads

so you're using netscape instead of mozilla? is there a libjava*.so plugin in the netscape plugin directory?

to install java (or the java plugin to be specific) you have to create a symbolic link to some libjava library in the JRE (java runtime environment).
