Angry Java

I have Kubuntu on my Laptop, and after recently upgrading I have found that some links in Email, and also some graphics/applets? on web pages are not shown. I looked in the Java folder and it is empty - also in Add and Remove Programmes it shows that no Java has been downloaded. How can I fix this?

I have looked at the link referring to this problem, but as a real Newbie to Ubuntu jargon still have no idea how to solve the problem. Can anyone tell me step-by-step what I need to do?

Welcome to LQ. .. ..

If you have (K)Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic or ealier, just install the 'sun-java6-plugin'
with 'synaptic' or : sudo apt-get install sun-java6-plugin

If it's (K)Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid, you can get the package here :
http://packages.ubuntu.com/karmic-up...n-java6-plugin
+ http://packages.ubuntu.com/karmic-updates/sun-java6-bin
+ http://packages.ubuntu.com/karmic-updates/sun-java6-jre
The sites will show the dependencies to be installed beforehand
with 'synaptic' : Packages marked with a red dot.
