Jabber audio/video call support

I'm wondering about what's going on with audio and video (or combined) data transmissions when it comes to Jabber.

I myself use Pidgin now, friend of mine uses that one as well, and the option is "greyed out" - can't click it.
As far as I remember it didn't work in Empathy either.

I might have been missing some packages, or if the support depends on servers I might be using the incompatible one. Nevertheless, I've made a little 'research' on the internet, and it doesn't seem to give me a definite answer, so I'd like to ask here...

Is the jabber audio/video support available in stable versions of IM clients? (or at all)
If yes, what packages/settings/plugins do I need to get it working?

Thanks for help.
