I'm running Kubuntu Intrepid 8.10 with kde-4.1.96 kernal-2.6.27-9
at first look it's good, but when I run KMPlayer, Tvtime I have no picture or invalid argument. The tuner has three (3)types of inputs, tuner, S-Video and Composite
Q: Is there something else I need to do?
Q: With KMPlayer see the card, how can I switch inputs?

How to convert VHS tapes to mpeg2 using a PVR-150 card.
Set your card to channel 3. On a terminal, type the command: ivtv-tune --channel=3
Put your tape in the VCR and press play.
To capture some video, on a terminal type the command:
cat /dev/vide0 > my.mpg
press ctrl-c to stop.
Open another terminal and type the command:
mplayer my.mpg
This will check the status of the video while it's being captured. This is how I know when the tape has ended and so forth.
Best regards"

I if I use zapping tv viewer I was able to view video from /dev/video0, but with two problems (1) seven green horizonal bars across the whole screen and (2) no sound
