Ive lost kde !
 

After trying to fix a mouse problem I now find mysef unable to load kde.

When I boot suse a text based loadup starts, and ends with the login prompt.

Can anyone tell me how to get back to a normal boot please

If you log in and type "startx", does KDE load ok? If so, you probably just need to change your default runlevel in /etc/inittab. Open the file and look for

# Default runlevel. (Do not set to 0 or 6)
id:3:initdefault:

You'll need to change that 3 to a 5. After that, save the file and reboot.

If that isn't the case and you're getting errors, post them.

Further to previous poster, you could run back through the graphical configuration by simply typing "sax2" from the command prompt to load up the wizard. This should hopefully go back through re-configuring your graphics card, monitor, mouse, etc. and load up normally. Otherwise, yeah, post the errors displayed on screen.

In fact, KDE in known for such f#ck ups. A lot of people reported that after changing mouse theme
either they lose mouse or boot

yes ! SlackerLX your dead right. I have lost mouse and I ran a prog called KCE (I think ???) basically it let me do the same thing as YAST but when I had done the mouse configuration, it said something about the graphics card ?????

So it looks like I need some sort of fix for this (common?) problem.

I'm new to Linux and feel really lost now !

I have been back to boot suse and these are the errors after login and typing startx

fatal server error : No screens found

and

XIO : fatal IO to ERR 104 (connection reset by peer) on X server ":0.0" after 0 requests (0 known processed) with 0 events remaining

and

DATA INCOMPLETE IN FILE /ETC/X11/XORG.CONF

Bootup with some LiveCD. Then copy settings of X to your original installation

that I think, sounds too difficult for me at the moment, can you expand on that a little.

Not too intricate. Insert LiveCD. Slax or Knoppix of suse live and bootup the Live OS
When it's up go to corresponding directory of temp files that LiveCD created when detected your hardware. Lauch Midnight Commander and copy settings from xorg file, let's say (example) from /tmp/etc/X11/xorg.conf to
your original install root /etc/X11/xorg.conf
