http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManage...sion&iId=10248 it gets a bronze rating under the appdb, which is terrible. I've never had any luck with it myself.

Check if it's available through your package manager. If not, you can download it from http://www.winehq.org

The only way is to use software like WINE which is used to run Windows applications on Linux, but as XavierP says it probably won't work correctly.

For future posts, it is usually more productive to say what you want to do instead of asking how to fix an error with a program that you think will do it.

There are free and native alternatives like amarok if you really like that kind of beast.

I never understood what's so special about iTunes.

I have 3 iPod's: 3G, 1G nano & iTouch. all work great with Linux and no iTunes. what iPod do you have? running iTunes in wine won't give you good results even if you get it working.

Have you looked at Gtkpod and Yamipod? Both are designed specifically to talk to ipods.

You have ubuntu? 8.04 I suppose.
Have you tried just connecting it? it should show up on your desktop and open in rhythmbox by default. Most players on linux can handle ipods: Exaile, Rhythmbox, Amarok - announced for Listen...

I have had some trouble with Rhythmbox and my ipod shuffle, but Amarok and gtkpod worked just fine.

how did you try to transfer the songs? the ipod touch is a special case you can't sync over usb; you have to do it over wifi. I have both of those iPods. I'd like to help you but you have to be as specific as posible.

yikes
This is really ugly.

Always do a google search, or just go straight for the ubuntu wiki. This is the first search result for "ipod.touch ubuntu":

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Po...Devices/iPhone

Pretty ridiculous. Looks like they did everything they can to make you use itunes.
