ok, I feel really stupid, it must be something that Im doing wrong, but Im too new to know what it is that I have to change. Im running knoppix 3.2 on a system that usually runs winXP installed on hda1, on hdb1 there is a dormant installation of winME that hasnt been run for the last year and a half. The winXP disk is NTFS, the win ME disk is fat32. I can read anything off either of the harddrives, but I cant write anything to the fat32 disk for some reason. I can save the configs.tbz file there when I go to save the settings, but I cant write anything else, I played around with the permissions, but that didnt change anything, I keep getting the same message. I am using konqueror, but it also happens when I go to save a playlist from xmms, what am I doing wrong?



Another question that I have (that doesnt relate to the previous question), how why is wine not an emulator? I know the what the name means, Wine Is Not an Emulator, please explain in simple terms if you can.

knoppix mounts everything as read only.

You have to umount the partition and the mount it as read/write (read/write is the default).

"Wine Is Not an Emulator" is splitting hairs. You can emulate both software and hardware. For example if you were running an Intel 586 computer and using an emulator for DEC PDP 11 then the emulator has to emulate both the DEC hardware and software. WINE runs on Linux/i586 and emulates Windows running on an i586. Therefore WINE can get by with only emulating the Windows software and not have to emulate the i586 hardware.
