Issues with KDE...

Background:

1.) Just installed Suse 10.1 with Gnome as default desktop. (first time Linux user)

2.) Using Yast and some repoistories on Opensuse.org I installed the KDE desktop and whatever addons I thought I might need.

3.) I'm now using KDE and getting some errors.

Errors:

1.) in control center when I click the "Windows" icon to configure how my windows look, I get this error:
Quote:

Cannot start the preferences application for your window manager

Window manager "KWin" has not registered a configuration tool
2.) When Gaim starts up it asks me for all my passwrds. I go to the keyring manager, again in the control center and get this error:

Quote:

GNOME Keyring daemon is not running.
3.) When running KAudioCreator, I recieve this message:

Quote:

No Encoder Selected
However when I look under Settings->Encoder, I have the OggEnc encoder selected and configured (with a few other encoder choices). Why isn't it working?

The Question:

Can anyone help me?

Thanks

You should probably un-install whatever you installed from the OpenSuse repository.

Then use Yast -> Software -> Install and Remove. From the drop-down list box, select Package Groups. Scroll down to the bottom and click on zzzAll. When the list comes up, scroll down to the k's and start selecting Kde packages to install.

That way, you know you have packages compatible with what you installed from cd/dvd.

When that's all done, go to online-update to update the packages you installed.

Thanks, my computer is down for a few days while I move, but I'll give that a try when I get it back up and online.
