Issues installing linux from freedos
 

Hi There;
After I got my new computer I connected dvd/blu ray to it and trying to install red hat 6(dvd) without success.
Computer only have a freedos OS and I am assuming that it needs driver for dvd but not sure, or maybe is something else. In any case not very experienced and don't know what to do. Please help!

What do you do or try to do when installing?
What does happen?
What does not happen?
Does it begin to install then stops?
Does it do nothing?
Does it install, but cannot be booted afterwards?
Cannot detect the disc, or detects it but cannot read the contents?

I turn on computer, press "esc" and f10 to get into h-p setup utility .
Then go to menu "storage" -> boot order -> atapi cd/dvd drive / f10 to accept
Then File -> save changes and exit -> Yes

... but it goes to the prompt C:\> and doesn't boot.

Normally, the procedure is to re-boot the computer with disc inside the tray and when the computer boots, the installer on the disc takes over. (As long as CD is before hard-drive in the BIOS settings.) It should not be more difficult than that, unless being a new machine, it might have UEFI,* which might need to be disabled.

I am unfamiliar with "h-p setup utility."

*At the moment I do not remember the name, so the name could be wrong.

Yes, the disc is inside before I turn on computer but somehow it skips boot.
How do I get to BIOS settings in freedos?

With most computers, a message appears at the bottom of the screen before the operating system loads informing which button to press to enter the BIOS. F10 and F11 are common. Read the message and push the button listed. The message is only there for a few seconds, so it must be done quickly. Once in BIOS, read the instructions. It is easy. Mostly arrow keys, Tab and Enter.
