Issue with Unix Shell script getting Defunct

We have couple of shell scripts , which get hung due to defunct issue. Could anyone please help me understand the possible reason? How do I handle this in my script?

Welcome to Linux Questions!

You can diagnose errors with 'set -v -x' in bash scripts.

It would help to see the actual error message produced by the script, and maybe the parts of the script that cause the error.
