I wish to buy a new PC with OS on it. The vendor is willing to install Linux on it for a $25 fee. Is this service worth it ? Will it simplify a lot of things for me at the start ? Thanks.
You miss out on all the fun (or was that frustration?). You won't learn as much and when it goes wrong, well you won't know how it was originally set up.
It would make it a lot easier though, but how are they going to set it up? and how much control do you get over it? What distro are they using?
IF he can do a dependable job, and you are new to linux I'd say go with it. You can then get a feel for linux with less frustration, and make a hdd image of the comp. Then once you feel a bit secure in the os wipe the drive and do your own install. Just my .02

Or better yet, I can also do a partition of the HD. I can keep his install and install mine in another partition. That way, I get to keep both and learn. Will this be good ? Thanks.
If I want Mandrake 9.1, it costs atleast $15. If he will give me the CDs and install it for $25, which is just $10 for the install, it looks quite good. What do you think ?
Judging by how many times youve posted and the nature of your posts recently, you have enough enthusiasm and look like you'll both benefit and be able to install it yourself.
