It might have been useful if I had 20:5 vision. [heh]
I find Audacious and/or VLC really simple to use. Both will play a CD. Audacious takes playlists if you got 'em but individual files work fine as well (Audacious creates a temporary playlist for you).
Anyone who misses WinAmp? that would tell a milestone.
I did use winamp in the past for web radio broadcasting, together with oddcast (and later edcast). It was a nice player, however it has been acquired by another software company and it went towards the bloat ware path, so I stopped using it.
Slightly off-topic but the last good non-bloated (and as far as I know, malware-free) version of WinAmp is still available for download if you still have a Windows computer. http://forums.winamp.com/showthread.php?t=373755
On Linux side, I find xmms to be the best WinAmp replacement. Qmmp is also very good, too, I liked the improvements made to it, but it has crashed on a couple songs where xmms hasn't crash on any of the songs.
