Post Is there any other way to find configuration files other that from man pages?

I have trouble remembering where exactly each configuration file is located in unix/linux systems (there are alot lol)

Is there a more effective way to find where exactly each configuration file is located?

For example: grub? Other than reading through manual pages - I can't seem to find any info on where the configuration files are (other than googling for it - how would I find this information in a test environment like the RHCSA?)

Check out some wikis!

I haven't used Red Hat ever, so I can't help you with that, srry. Though, if you're looking for howtos and where configuration files are located you should check out some of the wikis that many distros have.

I mainly use Debian and Arch ones, but you may want to check if Red Hat has one too.

There may be some minor differences between one distro and another, but they are generally all the same. For example, for you to update GRUB config, in Arch you type
Code:
# grub-mkconfig -o /boot/grub/grub.cfg
, but in Debian you use
Code:
# update-grub
. Btw, they both use the same configuration file, located at
Code:
/etc/default/grub
.

Hope it helps! :^)

In all the cert exams I've been in, it's pretty much expected that you know what and where config files are, and help files/manuals may not be available. It helps to know the man section numbers, e.g. 5 is for config files.

add /etc/grub.d/ dir to that list

also distros mostly conform to XDG specs
https://specifications.freedesktop.o...%20be%20stored.

in other words configs are normally searched, with home configs tending to be used ahead of system wide here
~./config
~./
/etc/
/usr/local/etc

I'm sorry what?
Code:
man grub-
grub-bios-setup grub-macbless grub-mknetdir grub-reboot
grub-editenv grub-menulst2cfg grub-mkpasswd-pbkdf2 grub-render-label
grub-file grub-mkconfig grub-mkrelpath grub-script-check
grub-fstest grub-mkdevicemap grub-mkrescue grub-set-default
grub-glue-efi grub-mkfont grub-mkstandalone grub-syslinux2cfg
grub-install grub-mkimage grub-mount
grub-kbdcomp grub-mklayout grub-probe
You sure you checked all those?

Also make sure to try
Code:
info grub
