Hi there,

after many years testing and "playing" with download managers I have concluded to two firefox plugins that do the job (actually they do great job) and are free (of course).

flashgot (http://flashgot.net/) and downthemall (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/201)

this combination is a killer trust me !

Specially when you have multiple URL links on a page you wanna download , you select them right click and choose "flashgot selection" .Then flashgot feeds the links to Downthemall and it takes over and downloads them all :)

It supports also resume of broken downloads ...

try them out and drop me a message if you like them :)

hope it helps !

For downloading from some famous file hosting sites like rapidshare, you may want to use tucan

For others, firefox plugin, downthemall is excellent.
For downloading videos, like from youtube, youtube-dl and curl.

Personally, I usually use wget with some scripting, if necessary, to download files. It is much more powerful than any other download manager that I have used.

Hope it helps :)
