Is there a way to telephone Linux
 
I was just wondering, is there a way I could setup my machine through its modem so that I can dial in directly to the machine? Maybe make my own ISP server if that's possible. Any opinions or advice on how to do this?

You just need to run a PPP dial in server. Most likely there are packages in your distro to do this. The PPP dial in server acts exactly like an ISPs dial in servers. You will need some idea of how to set network routing etc...
