Is there a way to release your sound device?

I'm using KDE, which gives me quite a few problems with running sound on games, telling me the device /dev/dsp is busy.

I know that using gnome would give me less problems of this nature as kde hogs sound devices badly, but I would like to know if there is a way of releasing the sound device from any usage.

btw, usually if i look if anything is using /dev/dsp it says nothing, but it lies, it lies!

any help would be appreciated.

ps FC5 btw

Yeah, go into the control center and find the sound related settings. One of the options is to select a time out for KDE to release the device. I normally choose something like 1 second.
