Is there a way to improve java performance?

Regardless of which browser I use, java applets are always slow and choppy. I'm running an AMD Athlon 1800+ (1533Mhz) which I know is obviously fast enough to handle this. I prefer using firefox, but as I mentioned this also happens in mozilla and konqueror.

Is there anthing I can do to improve this performance? Is there a way to give it higher priority...if nothing else? Even a simple applet ike javanoid is rather choppy...

Please advise...

You've just bumped into the known downsides of Java on Linux... I'm sure Sun will get round to fixing it as they become more interested in Linux (see Java Desktop!).
