Is there a place I can mail my laptop to and pay them to fix it?
I have a 1 year old HP Pavilion laptop, and for 2 days I've been trying to get the Broadcom wireless card in it to work by entering sudo code into terminal; however, no luck. There are plenty of solutions on the net, I just can't find the right one.
Are there any companies or individuals that I can pay & mail this to, so it will work with Linux (In the U.S.) It works under Windows, so I know the card isn't broke. Also, when I post terminal responses, how do I get it in the little box so it won't be so long on screen. |
I've not encountered such a place, but I haven't looked for one either.
Just for curiosity, what distro/version are you running (your user agent icon says Ubuntu, but many Ubuntu derivatives report as Ubuntu also) and what is the Broadcom chipset? Also, have you looked at this post at LQ: http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...ux-4175434970/ It's getting a bit long in the tooth, but many of the pointers in it are still valid. |
Check Craigslist. I know there's 1 computer shop here in Phoenix that advertises they can do linux.
Also, check for a Linux Users Group in your town. Might be able to just take the time to go there and have someone look at it. |

I'm running Ubuntu 16.04 lts. As far as the chipset, all I know is that additional drivers reports Broadcom BCM43142 802.11 b/g/n I will look at that post. Unless it's something I can copy and paste into terminal, it's probably beyond my knowledge of Linux. Anyone here that feels they can pull it off, I would pay for your services. |

My town is too small for a Linux user group. If you could get me the phone number to the Phoenix place, I'd appreciate it. |

As an aside, if you have the ability to plug into the network to install packages, you'd want to install the package broadcom-sta-dkms to resolve your issues. |
Run this and post the output (install inxi in need)
Code:
inxi -c 0 -F |
Michael Piziak,
You can still probably solve this yourself with a bit of guidance. As well as frankbell’s excellent “sticky” on Broadcom wifi in Linux (link in post #2 above), there is this Ask Ubuntu link about Broadcom wifi: http://askubuntu.com/questions/55868...reless-drivers Another alternative would be to use antiX since it automatically recognises and enables most Broadcom wifi cards: http://antix.mepis.org/index.php?title=Main_Page http://download.tuxfamily.org/antix/...FAQ/index.html To enable wifi in antiX 16.1 after installation: Menu > Control Centre > Network > Network Interfaces (ceni) > wlan0 > follow wizard and give SSID/network name and wifi password. |

I would try other distros from live USB, maybe Linux Mint 18.1. Or ubuntu 17.04. You're looking for a distro that automagically finds your wireless card.

Just FYI: looks like this got Solved here: http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...7/#post5685137
