Is there like a guy who can come to my house and install all the shit I want on Ubuntu? It's all so confusing whenever I try to install something, I have to type in all this shit and then there are errors and I don't know what to do.

How about posting what your trying to install.

If your talking about stuff like codec and such there is a program that will install all that for you called Automatrix2. You can get it Here it's not hard to install just follow the directions.

Give us an idea what your trying to install though, if you are using apt from a command line it's as simple a sudo apt-get install program/name can't get much easier than that.

Everything I try to install gives me problems. I was hopping there was an IT service that knew about Linux, that could come to my house.

You need to give some examples, it would help.

I'm not talking about specific problems! Look, I can call up like 5 different services that will come to my house and help me out with windows or Mac (AKA: nerds to the rescue, geek squad, etc.) what I'm wondering is if there is a service like that that caters to Linux users.

You can check to see if there is a linux lug in your area, it's a group of people that meet once a month to talk about linux and share ideas. You could also check with the Geek squad and ask if they have someone. (I doubt it though)

Edit: Also get on a IRC chat channel for linux there is always someone that will help.

If you haven't installed xchat it's a IRC chat program, you can find Ubuntu channels on that,

Just open your Synaptic Package Manager, located in the upper task bar in System > Administration > Synaptic Package Manager. Click on Search type in xchat when the search is done look in the right window and check xchat, a window will pop up asking to mark it for install click that, it will show what will be added, then click install. Let it do it's thing when it's done go to Applications > Internet > xchat open that and then put in a user name and pick a server, (There is a Ubuntu server) just joint a channel and you can get real time help.

you can also use synaptic to install any applications u need

such as firefox, mozilla thunderbird, WINE, kopete (MSN-a-like), k3b(like nero) etc etc the list goes on

Linux User Groups is a world list of LUGS.

as a old linux guy I will not do it with Ubuntu but I can with slackware. and if I did take the time to do it with ubuntu then I would not be using the apt get I would build it like all good linux distros do by source and that is called build with control. and yes I guess ubuntu is linux that can be built from source and I have done it and rather not. Ubuntu Is good stuff but no control with the apt-get from my point of view. The reason I use msn yahoo and with all webcams etc. yeap ubuntu has those in apt-get but hey I tried them and they are way behind. for my friends i build systems that they like and all the stuff they use from windows. but with Ubuntu this has been just to much work for me.

I want to assume root and be root not a sudo.

It is real easy to install tons of software with synaptic. First, enable your software repositories:

In the long run you will be much better off taking the time to learn and becoming self reliant. Ubuntu basics are not hard to learn at all. You can also try searching ubuntuforums.org.
