Is there a decent "how to" for setting up DVD access???

I have tried to set up xine and VideoLAN and they will not "take".
The control panel comes up in videolan but does not respond to commands and xine gives a "no such device" (dev/dvd).
I can't seen to find a decent how to to make sure I am doing everything correctly.

As root:

cd /dev
ln hdb dvd -s
where hdb is the IDE device for your DVD drive. (This example assumes it is your primary slave)

Would be a good idea to check which device is your DVD first, though.

If you can mount DVD-roms then look at your /etc/fstab file. This will show you which device corresponds with your DVDs mount-point. You should do the above for this device.
