Is there a command to see if there is any data on my hdd that won't open?

I have an encrypted hdd that will not open. I want to reformat it and partition it, but need to know if there is any data on it.

Looking online, I found the command line "df -h", but this only works if the hdd is mounted.

Is there another way, as I can't seem to find one.

Thanks.

if you could unlock it.....
Otherwise there is no way to check the content of an encrypted drive.

If you can't decrypt it, the qn is moot...
