Is something needs to be done to secure linux server after installing vpn on it?
Hi,
I am newbie to Linux. I bought a vps server and installed openvpn server on it. It works fine. But what I worry is, every article I read about how to setup vpn server only shows how to install&configure vpn but doesn't mention about the server security. I have only few firewall rules about how to transfer traffic to my laptop successfuly. Because I haven't installed anything other than vpn, do you think someone can access to server except ssh login? I have no firewall rules other than forwarding rules. On windows I have tons of security programs and that makes me uneasy on linux. Could you please give me advice? |
My advice would be to just use it, Linux does not have all of the security issues windows has. You could add a few items to your ip tables if you wish. I have used Linux for over a dozen years with no firewall or virus checker and have never had a problem of any kind. I just upgraded Linux for a friend that had used it for 10 years on the same install with no problems, the only reason for the upgrade was flash was outdated for version 1 firefox. She had over 1100 bookmarks so she was a heavy user.
