Is possible to totally wipe my android device and replace it witha Linux 0S ?


Hi all, I was wondering if its possible to change my spare galaxy note(n9oo5)into a Linux machine .Is such a thing possible and it so how worldone go about it?
Thoth for any info .

Yes it is possible but I think Ubuntu in the only distribution so far that can be installed on an Android phone.

You will have to know how to use the Ubuntu command line, and you will need to be prepared to use beta software that’s neither finished nor guaranteed stable. (there is a risk involved

Youshould note that Android devices already run Linux (the kernel), but with a custom userland. Depending on your purpose, you might achieve the level of control desires by rooting your phone and (possibly) installing custom firmware (e.g. Cyanogen). I've never done this (don't see the need), but I know a couple of people who have. You might want to look into that before completely switching OSes on your phone.

There are several ROMs that you could flash into your device. The first one to look into would be Cyanogenmod (http://www.cyanogenmod.org/) Make sure you grab the right version for your device.
