Is my sdb hard disk dying?

I keep losing my /home partition which is on a second disk (IDE drive on a IDE->SATA Card). When I do an "ls" in home or anything else, I get "I/O Error.

My dmesg looks like: -

Code:
sd 5:0:1:0: [sdb] Unhandled error code
sd 5:0:1:0: [sdb] Result: hostbyte=DID_BAD_TARGET driverbyte=DRIVER_OK
end_request: I/O error, dev sdb, sector 63
__ratelimit: 122 callbacks suppressed
Buffer I/O error on device sdb1, logical block 0
Buffer I/O error on device sdb1, logical block 1
Buffer I/O error on device sdb1, logical block 2
Buffer I/O error on device sdb1, logical block 3
Buffer I/O error on device sdb1, logical block 4
Buffer I/O error on device sdb1, logical block 5

Buffer I/O error on device sdb1, logical block 7
Buffer I/O error on device sdb1, logical block 8

The drive is reasonably new - less than two years old anyway. Could it be the IDE->SATA card dying instead or the drive or something else?

Thanks.

Could be many things. First thing you need to do is find and run the hard disk vendor's own diagnostic tool, e.g. Samsung's HUTIL or Western Digital's Data LifeGuard Diagnostics. This will tell you if the disk is ok or not and if not should provide a code you can give to the MFR as proof of defect to get an RMA.
