Is my network card ok?

Hello guys,

I want to switch from Windows 7 to Linux. I attempted to do this once but I ended up with all my files lost (young and restless). This was because Linux Mint didn't recognise my network card so I panicked and reinstalled Windows. So, my question is... do I need to change my Network Card, which is an ASUS NX1001?

L.E.: Oh, also... if I am here already... will my external NTFS HDD Seagate Expansion Drive be recognised?

I don't think that card will work. This discussion from 2012 described it as a "useless antique" and the attempt to get it running ended in failure.

The Asus page you can download drivers from from mentions no version of Windows after NT (!) and the Linux driver is for version 2.6 — kernel 3 came out in 2011. The fact that the old Windows driver works for you is no promise of success, for Windows does backward compatibility in a way that Linux doesn't.

I would just change the card in the post from link above, the end result was that the OP, while having 2 network cards aliased a working network card to attempt getting the other card working, thereby having no working network cards.
