Is it safe to delete old kernel images?

Hello all. I recently updated my kernel from 2.6.xx to 3.2.11. I still have some of the old kernel images (2.6.xx plus a couple that I compiled wrong) I am pretty sure it is safe to delete these images, just thought I would verify that before actually rm-ing them. Thanks!

if they aren't referenced in your grub.conf or equivalent, you don't need them, you want to formally remove them though, not just rm them if you didn't build them yourself.

I use lilo, but the old images are not referenced. I also overwrote the old System.map files. What do you mean "formally remove them" though?

well uninstall the packages, rpm's, deb's etc. pkg's in your case I presume

Okay I see what you're saying I think the command is removepkg or something around there. Thanks for you help!
