Is it possible to install Linux on a Pendrive.

We have this old computer, It use to have Windows XP, but recently the harddisk doesn't work anymore. We tried installing WinXP again on it but it failed at formatting. We didn't use the computer that often, we only did simple stuff on it, Like use the Internet, I Was thinking, Is is it possible to Install Linux on a Pen drive (Not Live Pen drive) I Want the Information I put on it to stay there. like installing on a harddisk but instead on a Pendrive. So is it possible and how.

P.S: I was thinking of CentOS

Actually you can install linux to the flash drive just like any other drive install. I agree that the pendrivelinux is good but for a permanent install just install you OS to a flash drive and just be sure it puts the bootloader on the flash drive. It would make a slightly better install usually.
