IRQ10 need to re-assign and resulting error

Do to the constraints of the hardware I am using, I need to assign IRQ10 to a peripheral. When I do, the Debian distribution won't start and has this screen:

Booting 'Debian GNU/Linus' 2.6.28-1-Versalogic-geodelux'

Root (hdo,o)
Filesystem type is eext2f2, partition type 0c03
kernel /boot/bmlinuz-2.6.28-1-Versalogic- geodelux root=//dev/hda1 ro video=1xfb:1024x768@60 splash nfgpt_irq=10 quiet
[Linux-bzImag, setup=0x3000, size=22a8d0]

1. 0.032001] a;g: cipher: Test 1 failed on encryption for aes-am

My questions are:
1) What does IRQ10 do. The list I saw labeled it "reserved"

2) Can I substitute another IRQ for this function?

3) If so, how?

4) If not, can I live without the function and how do I disable it?

and are you sure you have the right filesystem type there? google search brings back one result for the search term "eext2f2" and of course its this very thread.
