IRQ Sharing hangs boot for a while
I've got a PCI device, I think it's my soundcard because it's listed right after Alsa starts during bootup, that is using IRQ 9 along with my USB mouse. Boot hangs for about 3 minutes on bootup at the PCI" Sharing IRQ 9 with [mouse id] then continues on its merry way. Everything works, including mouse and sound, but this pause is really aggravating.
Can I change one to another IRQ? Is that the solution? Thanks Oh, I'm using Slack 12 on a Dell PIII 500. |
To move your soundcard to a non conflicting IRQ dig out your motherboard manual and look at which channels are shared by your PCI slots. Note which slot your soundcard is in and move it to a different slot, but not the one that it's sharing a channel with ;)

You mean physically move it? Heck I think I only have 2 or three slots. Will give it a shot.

Well my sound is integrated. Why does boot reference all this PCI stuff when loading my sound card? I may be confused, but thought PCI was for PCI CARD stuff...
Anyway, I can't move it and the BIOS menus have nothing about IRQ's except for the serial port. Now what... I also ran my USB mouse thru a ps/2 style adapter and hooked it to the mouse plug and it still hangs for a while. |
