iptables slows down the web server

Hi!

I am using CentOS 4.4 (web server, mail server, proxy, ftp). I have configured iptables. My problem is the following:
When the iptables runs my website comes out very slow, but as soon as I stop the iptables, my website's speed is normal (good).

Does somebody has any idea?

If you found the solution, you may want to post the solution if anyone else ever encounters the same issue.
