Hello guys

I've recently inserted:
# iptables -t nat -A PREROUTING -m tcp -p tcp --dport 80 -j REDIRECT
--to-port 8080

and nothing happens I assumed it works how can I verify that the command is really working

I tried:
#vi /etc/sysconfig/iptables

I cant see the PREROUTING ACCEPT at the above of the lines

What do you mean by nothing happens? What are you running on port 8080? If nothing is listening on port 8080 then you will see nothing.

To check iptables you must connect from another computer to your. You can also check if command was accepted by iptables -S or iptables -L

If you execute cammand iptables, it is active immediately, but it is not stored in filesystem, only in memory. It is forgotten after restart. If you want it to be all the time, store it in file /etc/sysconfig/iptables.
