IPP process eats too much RAM
 

Hi. I've recently installed a good old HP Laserjet 5 on the LPT. It works fine, but the problem is, a process called "ipp" has appeared and its RAM usage grows and grows until I kill it (last time I did it was using 200 MB of RAM...) It doesn't take long to restart itself, though I'm not sure as for when it does. What could it be causing it? I'm not sharing it through the network or anything.

try CUPS
 

The best solution is to make sure that your printer is supported by CUPS and use it instead of IPP. It's known that the IPP uses a protocol based on HTTP/1.1 which make it overloads. I think that IPP is needed even for local printing (i'm not sure) so as I told you try another printing solution such as CUPS (Common Unix Printing System) which is more modern and more optimized.

I think that just worked! Though it's weird that Kubuntu 6.10 still says that ipp is recommended, when you're setting a new printer... Anyway, I changed it and it works fine, and no ipp process appeared :)
